BARC ADOPTION STANDARDS
Adopters understand the characteristics of the beagle breed and/or are willing to commit to working with these unique hounds.
Adopters understand the time and monetary commitment involved with adopting a dog, and will give appropriate exercise, daily attention and a stable, loving home environment for a beagle.
Adopters are committed to the lifelong care involved with a beagle and agree to provide proper veterinary care, vaccinations, licensing and other appropriate care. Adopter agrees that this beagle will be a family member and companion.
Adopters must live in a home/environment that allows a new dog or the addition of another dog to their home. Renters must provide a copy of their lease showing that a dog or dogs are permitted.
Adopters understand that, in general, BARC will NOT adopt to apartment dwellers as this breed is NOT well-suited to apartment living. Adopters understand that any decisions regarding adoption to an apartment dweller are at the sole discretion of BARC.
Due to Arizona’s extreme heat, beagles adopted through BARC must have 24-hour access to air-conditioning. BARC does NOT adopt outside dogs, i.e., dogs who will be living outside a residence, such as a back yard, for the majority of the day. BARC supports use of doggie doors, crating, doggie day care and other humane methods in lieu of leaving dogs outside.
Adopters agree to provide a secure fenced yard at the time of the adoption. This is REQUIRED for all BARC adoptees.
BARC beagles will NOT be placed in homes with unaltered dogs. All BARC dogs are spayed or neutered prior to placement in a new home.
Adopters are willing to have a Home Visit completed prior to being approved for adoption.
Adopter is willing to drive to meet and adopt a beagle.
Adopter understands that a non-refundable $10 application fee is due at the time of application. The adoption fee is due when the beagle is physically turned over to his or her new family.
If the adoption does not work out for any reason, Adopters agree to contact BARC for return of the dog to foster care. Adopters understand that they may need to continue holding the dog temporarily until an appropriate foster or adoptive home can be found.
